Attraction Overview
Housed in a historic red-brick building with wooden trusses, vertical windows, and a black-tiled Western-style sloped roof, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Taipei (MOCA) occupies the former Taipei Municipal Jiànchéng Elementary School built during the Japanese era. After Taiwan’s retrocession, the building served as Taipei City Government offices until 1994, when the city government relocated to the Xinyi Planning District. The main building was then repurposed as an art museum, while the east and west wings remain part of Jiànchéng Junior High School.
Originally named the “Taipei Second Art Museum,” MOCA Taipei became independent from the Taipei Fine Arts Museum and was officially renamed in 2000. The museum now showcases a wide range of contemporary art works and offers free audio guides, group tours, weekend talks, lectures, workshops, and occasional art camps to help visitors better understand the artworks.
